Sindh Claims First Gold Medal at the 35th National Games After a Thrilling Netball Final

Sindh secured its first gold medal at the ongoing 35th National Games in Karachi, marking a historic achievement for the host province. The breakthrough victory came in the women’s netball final, held at the PSB Coaching Centre, where Sindh delivered an impressive performance against the traditionally strong WAPDA team.

In a high-pressure and action-packed final, Sindh triumphed by 20–13, showcasing excellent teamwork, disciplined defending, and sharp shooting throughout the match. WAPDA, despite being the favorite and a dominant force in national competitions, had to settle for the silver medal this time.

Earlier in the tournament, Sindh had defeated the Army women’s team in the semifinal, a win that boosted their confidence heading into the championship match.

Award Ceremony & Officials’ Remarks

During the medal ceremony, Munawar Ali Mahesar, Secretary Sports Government of Sindh, distributed awards among the players. Speaking on the occasion, he expressed pride in the home team’s achievement.

He noted that winning the first gold medal—especially after 18 years of the National Games returning to Sindh as hosts—was a moment of great encouragement for local athletes. He further added that the victory on Sindh Day made the achievement even more meaningful, serving as a memorable gift from the players to the province.

“We hope Sindh continues to shine not just as excellent hosts, but also in the race for medals throughout the Games,” he said.

A Boost for Sindh Sports

The victory has been widely appreciated by sports fans and officials, who believe it will inspire more young athletes across the province. Sindh’s performance in women’s netball has set a positive tone for the remaining competitions in the National Games.
